While it’s only about a 10 minute drive from Santa Barbara, Summerland—a quaint beachside community with just around 1,500 residents—feels like another world entirely. Everyone here embraces a slower pace of life, reveling in the simple joys of beach strolls, community gatherings, and a deep appreciation for the natural wonders that surround them.
Stroll along Lillie Avenue, Summerland’s main street, popping into the many boutiques, art galleries, or cafés at your leisure. GARDE, Field + Fort, and The Well are my favorites for home furnishings while the monthly artisan market, charmingly dubbed Farmer and the Flea, is great for locally made goods. Lookout Park offers sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean along with reservable picnic tables, a playground, and lots of free parking.
Summerland Elementary School (K-5) is the only school within Summerland’s immediate boundaries. Students typically continue their education at neighboring schools in the Carpinteria Unified School District or other nearby districts.
