Welcome to Gaviota Coast

Stunning, rural beach stretches and coastal hiking trails

The Gaviota Coast is a beautiful and largely undeveloped stretch of coastline in southern Santa Barbara County defined by dramatic bluffs, secluded beaches, and rolling hills. With a rich history of ranching, this rural community attracts those seeking a slower pace of life, a downshift from the daily grind. Hollister Ranch is a highlight: Formerly 15,000 acres of cattle ranch, it’s now an exclusive gated community of 100-acre parcels that offer paralleled privacy.

Things to do:

This place is a haven for outdoorsy types, with plenty of opportunities for exploration and relaxation. Lounge on the sandy shores of Gaviota State Beach, go snorkeling at Refugio State Beach, or embark on scenic hikes along the coastline. For a tranquil (and luxurious) getaway, El Capitan Canyon is the ultimate: Book one of their cedar cabins or glamping yurts and spend your weekend tucked between the sycamore trees.

Schools:

The Goleta Union Elementary School District comprises nine schools. From there, students either attend Goleta Valley or La Colina Junior High School for 7th and 8th grade, and Dos Pueblos High School or San Marcos High School for 9th through 12th grade.

Other public schools in the area include:

  • Vista de las Cruces School (K-8)

While there aren’t any private schools located directly within Gaviota Coast, there are several options nearby:

  • Laguna Blanca School (PreK-12)
  • The Waldorf School of Santa Barbara (PreK-12)
